Fans of "That '70s Show" woke up with terrible news: one of the protagonists, Danny Masterson, was arrested on charges of raping three women. The actor faces a maximum sentence of 45 years. Look at all the details.
Actor Danny Masterson, better known as Steven in the comedy "That 70s Show", has been formally accused of having raped three women between 2001 and 2003, according to Jackie Lacey, US District Attorney for Los Angeles County.
Masterson, 44, was detained by the Los Angeles police, but was released after posting bail of $ 3,300,000, according to TMZ. If convicted, the actor will face a maximum sentence of 45 years in prison.
According to the complaint, Masterson is accused of raping a 23-year-old woman between January and December 2001. In April 2003, he allegedly raped another 28-year-old woman and, between October and December of that year, sexually attacked a young woman 23-year-old whom he had invited to his home in the Hollywood Hills.
Assistant District Attorney Reinhold Mueller in charge of the case said all the alleged incidents occurred at the Masterson home in Los Angeles.
The words of Tom Mesereau, the actor's lawyer, in this regard were as follows:
"Mr. Masterson is innocent and we trust that he will be exonerated when all the evidence finally comes to light and witnesses have a chance to testify. Obviously, Mr. Masterson and his wife are completely shocked, but they and their family know that the truth will ultimately come out".
According to The New York Times, the district attorney's office declined to press two more sexual assault charges against the actor because no evidence had been obtained to support the allegations.
Even in August 2019, four women filed a lawsuit against the actor and the Church of Scientology, accusing them of being harassed and intimidated: among them, are Chrissie Carnell Bixler, ex-girlfriend of the actor and current wife of Cedric Bixler -Zavala, lead singer of The Mars Volta; Marie Bobette Riales and two anonymous women.
However, Danny Masterson replied that the allegations were "more than ridiculous."
“I am not going to fight my ex-girlfriend in the media like she has been trying to provoke me for over two years. I will beat her in court, and I look forward to it because the public will finally be able to learn the truth and see how this woman has cheated on me. And once her claim is rejected, I intend to sue her and the others who got in the car, for the damage they caused to me and my family. ”
For these accusations, in December 2019 Netflix fired the actor from the show "The Ranch" where he shared credits with his former partner and friend, Ashton Kutcher. The agency to which he belonged, UTA, also stopped representing him. Surely we will have other details later on regarding the indictment against Danny Masterson for rape.
