This event brings together the most representative celebrities from the world of entertainment and, although the world health situation has forced the dates to be adapted, the Oscars will have a ceremony at the Dolby Theater at Hollywood & Highland Center in Hollywood.
April 25, 2021, is the new date of the 93rd Academy Awards where they will recognize the best film productions, a celebration that was scheduled for February 28, 2021. It has also been run to extend the dates of deciding the nominees, as a consequence of the world health situation.
This is a fact that has only 3 precedents in history:
- Los Angeles flooding in 1938
- The assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. in 1968
- After the attempted assassination of President Ronald Reagan in 1981
Referring to the ceremony and the way it will be held, the academy said in a statement that the awards will be held "at the Dolby Theater at Hollywood & Highland Center in Hollywood".
Regarding the dates of eligibility, David Rubin, president of the Academy, and Dawn Hudson, CEO of the institution, explained:
"For over a century, movies have played a significant role in comforting, inspiring, and entertaining us in the darkest of times ... They certainly have it this year. Our hope, by extending the eligibility period and our award date , is to provide the flexibility filmmakers need to finish and release their films without being penalized for anything beyond anyone's control. These upcoming Oscars and the opening of our The New Museum will mark a historic moment, bringing together movie fans from all over the world to unite through cinema".
The Academy Museum has also modified its opening date, which will be held with a small group of people, and will open its doors to the public on April 30, 2021. About this, the museum's director, Bill Kramer explained:
"I speak for all of us at the Museum when I say that we have been anxiously waiting for the moment when we can share the Academy Museum with film lovers everywhere (...) we have made the difficult decision to wait a few more months to open our Doors (…) We look forward to April 2021 when Los Angeles and the world can unite as the Academy celebrates the Oscars and the opening of its long-dreamed Museum".
