OrCam Technologies, the company specialized in the development of artificial vision technologies, based on Artificial Intelligence (AI), chooses soccer star Lionel Messi as the promoter of OrCam technologies for blind or low vision people.
The goal is to make assistive technology solutions accessible to people with various disabilities, and to increase awareness of the challenges faced by the blind and visually impaired community worldwide.
Each year Messi will present the OrCam MyEye to people who are blind or visually impaired with inspiring stories, some of which he has met in person in Barcelona. The first delivery of devices by the player took place just before the Coronavirus pandemic hit the world. The meeting was particularly surprising for Messi:
"It was really exciting. Meeting these people from all over the world has been a truly magical and inspiring moment. Watching each member of the 'Dream Team' use the features of OrCam MyEye makes it clear that this is a device that will change the lives of its users. I am very proud to be an OrCam Ambassador because it will really make a difference,", Messi said.
Approximately 300 million people worldwide suffer from blindness or varying degrees of visual impairment. OrCam MyEye helps significantly improve their quality of life.
Wireless, lightweight and compact in the size of a finger, OrCam MyEye machine vision device technology discreetly reads printed and digital text aloud from any surface of newspapers, books, computer screens and smart phones, restaurant menus, supermarket product labels and street signs in real time.
Additional features of OrCam MyEye include instant facial recognition and identification of consumer products, colors and tickets. The device also features a beta version of the new orientation feature, which helps guide users by providing information about their physical environment, including doors, aisles, chairs and more.
Magnetically placed in the user's eyeglass frame and weighing only 22.5 grams, OrCam MyEye has been meticulously designed by leaders in the fields of computer vision and machine learning to be intuitive and easy to use.
