Red bell pepper jam besides being very tasty in appetizers is also an excellent accompaniment to meats, cheeses, fish and even salad dressings. Being such a versatile preserve we thought it would be nice to share with you a recipe that always comes out perfectly and is quite easy to prepare.
Jam can be made from both fruits and vegetables, for some time now the vegetable jams are having good acceptance and there are many households that dare to include them in their menus, for example, tomato jam.
Ingredients
- 400g red peppers
- 200g sugar
- 50g white wine vinegar
- 50g water
Directions
Step 1: clean and cut the peppers
Wash and dry the peppers, remove the stem, the nerves (the white strips inside the peppers) and the seeds. Cut the peppers into small pieces and weigh them.
Step 2: cooking of the bell pepper jam
We put the pieces of peppers in a saucepan with the sugar, vinegar and water, mix well and cook over medium heat.
Let it cook for about 40 minutes, stirring from time to time. Once the time has elapsed, mash the mixture being careful not to burn yourself. Add the jam back into the saucepan and let it cook for 10 minutes more to thicken, stirring from time to time.
Step 3: packaging of the bell pepper jam
Finally, we put the jam in sterilized glass jars and let it cool, once it is cold we can use it. Next, we give you some advice to be able to preserve the jam for months.
Tips to make a perfect red bell pepper jam
Pepper/sugar ratio
Keep in mind that the sugar will always be half the weight of the peppers, if your peppers already cleaned weigh 300g instead of 400g as indicated in the recipe, put half the weight of your peppers in sugar, vinegar and water the same amount.
How to preserve the jam
In order to keep the bell pepper jam for a long time, even a year, we must first sterilize the glass jars (which must be airtight), and then sterilize the jam already packed. We explain how it is done here: how to make homemade jams.
How to taste the jam
A good way to taste the red bell pepper jam is on toast with cream cheese: put some red bell pepper jam on top or some slices of goat cheese, then spread the red bell pepper jam on top, delicious!
The red bell pepper jam is also ideal to accompany meats and fish, even to dress salads!
